April Joy Quisisem
Marketing & Graphic Design Chair
Real Estate Task Force
AAS in Graphic Design
BFA in Communication Art-Illustration
She/Her or They/Them
From an early age, April showed signs of having inattentive ADHD; however, due to her family’s cultural background and lack of education surrounding mental health, she went undiagnosed and untreated until her late twenties. Like many others in long term recovery, April had difficulties socially, academically, and mentally in her younger years due to the lack of mental health resources and general awareness in her community. Art has been her voice and way of connecting with others. It has helped her build self-esteem and form a sense of identity. Creating art has provided a nurturing, safe space to express her thoughts and emotions productively. In collaboration with the BCCH, April would like to provide additional education, resources, and opportunities to those in long term recovery, especially through community building events and the arts. It was her artistic passion that led April to obtain an academic scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, in which she graduated with high honors and received a BFA in Communication Arts—Illustration. She later pursued a creative career designing custom frames, and through her achievements within the company, she became the frame shop manager for over six years. April loves all things spooky, especially ghosts, so whenever she is traveling with her significant other, she makes sure to book a haunted ghost tour too!
